Read the following quotation and write a 50-word response that shows you understand it and whether you agree or disagree with it.
"When students find their voice and understand the power and magic of words, they are capable of expressing a myriad of emotions: frustration, anger, sadness, joy, wonder, curiosity. Through writing, students allow teachers to gain insight into their lives and innermost thoughts. Through writing, students can also share their strongest memories, deepest fears, and hopes for the future. And in the classrooms where writing is shared, empathy, acceptance, and appreciation for others takes hold. The benefits go far beyond academics. When students find their voice, they can often discover more about themselves and the people around them."

what is the important thing for writing? My mind is the same to the last quotation which says that it's innermost thoughts! Only from our thoughts we can write the real feeling and deepest opinion which can make others take empathy! I really wish we can learn more about writing here!

ReplyDeleteyes! i agree with that, it just really hard for me, because i feel like i really need to learn more words to express my deep thoughts inside, even when i write in my own language, i still need to think about the words that i use. Writing is totally different to speaking, and i am looking forward to learn more about writing in the class and hope to improve it.
ReplyDeleteI agree it. But actually I am not really wanted to write something to share what I thought and what I feel with others in English. I always think about a lot before I start to write. Because I’m afraid if I will use the wrong words or have some grammar mistakes. But I hope to communicate with others more to improve my writing skill.

ReplyDeleteI think the expression of the emotions through the writing means that writer can share their emotion and thinking with many people. Writing is a good way to express and share.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think that to express the something through the writing is difficult than speaking. Reader can understand through the word's image, but speaking has more clue to understand and to feel sympahty between speaker and listener. Therefore, We have to more think and organize that to deliver effectively when we're writing.

Sometimes not only the thoughts you share with and the experience you own but the insight you discover about the academical or social question. However, for me it just something for fun to release the feeling, the emotion and memorize the special occasion. But it's difficult for me with small vocabulary. So I want to learn more.
Agree. It is kind of difficulty for students who were disable to use specific words to describe details. Except having a lot of reading, is there any solution else to build vocabulary in a fast way? In my opinion, it is a problem to describe one item or something happened with many details there are lots of specific names or phrases we don't even heard before.

This quotation was very impressive for me .Frankly speaking, this article is completely right. I believe that through writing, many people are able to communicate with someone. Writing provides us with inexperience things and is another communication for us. However, it is easier said than done. In fact, writing is too difficult for us because it needs lots of specific details and information, and it has to describe involved in main idea. Although there are many hard something, we can get information shared each of thoughts from teacher and classmates with their criticism. So this quarter I'd like to learn much more writing.

ReplyDeleteYes, I agree with a power of words and that writing shows their insight. But before, i think we need to learn how to express our insight through the writing with using proper,correct words and expressions, of course with nice sentence composition. That's why i am here.
ReplyDeleteThe purposes for me to go to school not only learn from my professor but also learn to listen to different thinking from my classes. However, to describe what I want to say and to let other classmates understanding what I mean is the first step before I share my opinions. If I can join the website which helps me to get more ideas from my classmates, it will help me to increase knowledge and to learn accepting different opinions, so I agree people share their voice each other.

people are trying to find the way to connected with others. therefore, only speaking is not enough to do it. whenever I read a book, I felt I am connecting with the writer and sometimes it encourage me.

ReplyDeleteI agree with writer's opinion about writing for empathy.People have a variety of methods for communication such as writing,speaking. Speaking is convenient for everyone to talk to their friends, because speaking is quite complicated to take down something.but if a writer start sharing his innermost thoughts with a reader, a reader can understand writer's mind without useless talking. For expressing some fluent opinions consisting of writing, I should learn more about words and skills for making some common expressions. Anyway, after finishing this quater, I wish I'll write down my showing feelings effectively.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quotation. You cannot help discovering yourself unless you don't want to. In your writing, traces of your emotions remained completely. But everyone don't need to feel sympathy with one's writing. It is just a natural process. If you write faithful and use languages properly, your teachers and classmates can share your innermost thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I totally agree that. Writing has power to make our life more valuable because we are able to know and understand me that we don't recognize. For example, in a famous movie, All Freedom Writers, a diary which was written by students themselves helped them to find an exact causes of their problems that they didn't know.

Descriptive Paragraph
My Treasure Ring
My ring has been my most valued possession ever since. I got it around four months ago. I was accepted by Cal Poly Pomona English Language Institute, so my father was very happy with this good news because I could go to America to study more there. So he sent the ring to me as a pre-trip present. It is not a simple ring and it is very significant for me. It means my parents bless me and are proud of me. My father hopes I can live in America without mishap and feel happy all the time. At the same time, he hopes I can feel their deep love for me when I see my special ring. This ring was not bought in a normal jewelry store, but my father found a jeweler to customize for me. It just matches my middle finger on my left hand. It is made of platinum and on the top of the ring there is a gemstone which is red, oval and small coral. It looks bright when you see it under the light. The ring and my other jewelry match very well and make me feel beautiful. And the number of this kind of coral has decreased in the world, so it is very rare too. I preserve it in a small delicate wood box and I am not willing to part with the ring usually. I just wear it when I go to parties or on some special occasions. I believe it can bring luck and courage to me and I cherish it as a reminder of my father’s love.
