The Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in china. This festival is on May fifth in the lunar chinese calendar. In this festival, different area's people have different customs to celebrate. In my hometown, we celebrate the Dragon Boat festival in the most traditional way. There are three elements you should know about this festival, the legend of this festival, the event of this festival and how to make "ZongZi".
First, this is a legend of the Dragon Boat. At first, the festival was for lustrating the disease. Later on, a poet named Quyuan committed suicide on that day. So the festival evolved in memory of Quyuan. Quyuan is a great patriotic poet and a minister of kingdom of Chu in ancient China. During that time, Quyuan helped the emperor a lot and contributed to their country. However, the emperor was very silly because he believed rumors spread by the mean miniters. Quayuan was later exiled for that. He was very disappointed about that and felt he didn't have power to save his country and that his country's future was hopeless. Because of that, he wrote down tha famous poem "Lisao" and committed suicide by jumping into the "Niluo" river on May fifth. The local people were very sad when they heard this news so they went by boat to find Quyuan's corpse. They were afraid that the fish would eat Quyuan's body so they threw a kind of dumpling tied up with five colors of thread to prevent the fish from eating Quyuan's body Unfortunately, they couldn't find his corpse so they held the fesitival to commemorable Quayun.
On that day, people hold some traditional activities such as the Dragon Boat race. The dragon boat race is one of the oldest activities in china, it has more than 2000 years of history. This is fesitival is not only an entertaining activity, but also an expression of patriotism and collectivism. In addition, we also hang some special chinese madicine on the door to exorcise bad spirits.
The most essential part of this festival is making and eating "Zongzi". On the day of the festival, we need to get up a little early to make the "Zongzi". To mke Zongzi, ingredients needed included lotus leaves, sticky rice and some other seasonings, depending in your prefrence. But generally, we use beans, red dates and meat. To make zongzi, first, use a lotus leaf to wrap the sticky rice, which is mixed with beans, red dates or meat, After that, use five colored string to tie it up in a pyrid-shape. Finally, steam it for around three hours and then it will be ready to eat. It is very delicious and looks very cute.
The Dragon Boat fesitival is cery meaningful in the Chinede culture for the above reasons. That iswhy it is a very important event in china. I am very pround of the chinese culture and enjoy this festival!!

Women In Two Generations

Women in my generation are totally different from my grandmother’s generation. For the women, no doubt this is good news and it means we can live better and have more independence! They differ in terms of education, job and amount of time they spend on family.
In my grandmother’s generation, getting education depend on the area. For instance, in village, women couldn’t go to school because the villagers thought women should stayed at home to do housework. Just men could go to school to get education. So women didn’t have a chance to go school. However, in bid city, women could go to school. All rich people’s daughter could get education, but poor people had a right to go to school, but most didn’t have money. In my generation, no matter in village or city, we all must go to school because education is compulsory. Most women not only just finish compulsory education but also go to university to get higher level education.
After that, in my grandmother’s generation, some women don’t have job, and some women just could have part-time, lower salary and easy job, which was totally different from men. And they also had less job opportunity because lots of jobs ruled not allowed women do. But in my generation, almost all of us have full-time, high salary and all kinds of jobs, which is same as men. And we also have equal job opportunities, sexual discrimination is illegal in any places.
The amount of time and money they spend on family is different too. In my grandmother’s generation, ordinary or poor women spend all of their time on family, such as doing housework, cook and take care of children. However, rich women didn’t need to do that. They always go shopping mall, go theater and get friends together play mahjong. Women didn't have income or less income at that time, so just men invested money to support family. But in my generation, women spend some time or a little bit more time than men because most women have job that are simillar to men’s job. In addition, men and women all have to invest money for their family because family is two people’s responsibility, but maybe sometime men need invest more.
In conclusion, there are major deferences in the roles of the women in my grandmother’s generation and mine. I think men and women should be equal in this world; they have different roles which are both important. No one is more important than anyone else! So, in my opinion, I hope There are no sexual discrimination any more, and this situation can bring many benefits for women that could lead them on the equal and independent way.

Married Life and Single Life

Today, in China, the parents always require that their children get married as soon as possible when the children have already been over 25, in contrast, more and more teenagers select single life, and they give the family up. In fact, the single life brings us different style of the life and people enjoy it very much. The single life and married life differ in terms of freedom, expense, and feeling.
In China, a poem which talks about the status of the freedom is famous. It says the love and life, both of them are very necessary for human’s life; however the freedom is more important than either. All over the world, young people need much free time, they don’t long to go into the marriage which is like the grave of freedom. After work, people obtain more free time to go anywhere and do anything they want. For example, they go to watch basketball game at 7:00pm and the team which they support wins the game and makes them very excited; therefore they drink and dance for celebration in the club till 12:00pm even 2:00pm. Whereas the married person must refuse invite from their friends because they need to take care of the family,by cooking dinner for children, and doing housework.
Expense is the second problem for people to face. Single and married people both deal with it. .Single people earn money by themselves and just need to pay for themselves. The basic expense of single life is much lower than married people who usually have more responsibility, such as children’s tuition, car insurance and money for emergency. More pressure is put on the married people. Saving money is the second point. From the first problem, an obvious thing is that single life doesn’t usually have such a complex situation as married life; therefore family people need higher financial capability.

Finally, not only des married life differ in terms of freedom of expense but also in benefits. Although the free time of single life gives people much happiness, being lonely still becomes the worst thing for them. After every happy, sad, and crazy night, especially when they don’t have jobs to do and no friends stay with them, they go back home, lay on the bed, and think why they are alone and eager to find a close friend to talk with from inside. While the man who has wife or husband is better, every night they can share the interesting or sad things that happen during the days and get encouragement or solace from each other. It makes people more optimist and keeps a perfect emotion for everyday.
In the future, single life might become a trend, because young people think they have long time to enjoy their married life, but only have several years of being single; however, the reason why people select different ways to spend their lives is to enjoy themselves. Neither single nor married life is absolutely correct or wrong. Please remember one sentence, “the best one is what is fit for you!”

Spring Festival Day

On Spring Festival day, Chinese usually have three family happy periods: the afternoon before the festival day, the night before the festival day, and the festival day. All of them make people excited and happy.
Follow the tradition in the afternoon before the festival, every young family goes to their grandma’s home and stays with their parents to prepare for family reunion dinner. There must be fish, chicken, pork feet, and the most special one—dumpling. Why is dumpling the most important? The answer is that the dumpling of the festival will be wrapped with red dates and coins. In Chinese culture when we eat them, during the coming year people can obtain much luck and money, and great health. Usually people must spend an entire afternoon on cooking all of the food. Although the process takes a long time and makes people tired, they also enjoy themselves.
The second part is the eve before festival. There are two exacting activities to do. One is eating and drinking. At 8:00 pm people start to eat a nice dinner. First, the oldest people will give a presentation about the conclusion of the whole year, which includes positive and negative events as well as a big wish for the New Year. After that it’s the drinking part. The young people must drink with the older people with a toast, such as “good luck in everything” and “good health and a long life”, which means young person respect them deeply. The other element is to watch New Year’s party, which is popular all over China. Mr. Zhao is the most famous actor and gives people infinite happiness. We looked forward to seeing on the stage every year. It almost becomes a habit as if the festival dinner is not perfect without him. Till 12:00 pm while the clock is ringing, people go outside and light firecrackers. So many different and colorful firecrackers make the night beautiful and full of detonation. At that moment people happily welcome the coming year.
Finally, on the first day of new year, people wake up early, wear their new clothes for the new year and go to relatives’ and friends’ places to bring good wishes to each other. Particularly, children who don’t have a job could get money as a gift from the older generationwhen they say, “Happy New Year”. Therefore, many friends meeting and enjoying together for the new year is the most important event for the for the festival.
The spring festival is full of welfare atmosphere. Spring Festival is the most important day in the Chinese heart.

The National Day

On national day, October 1st, we have a wonderful time in Beijing and some special activities for public celebration, family outside home and family at home.
The first thought which Tiananmen Square is because it is the best important place you should go on those days. Tiananmen Square is a ceremony of building up a country which is China, and Tiananmen Gate located there which is a significant building. It is very classical architecture with Chinese characteristics; it is the main Chinese red color. Our president, Chairman Mao, declared funding of new China on Tiananmen Gate on October 1st, 1949. Every ten years there will have a magnificent parade on Chang An Street which is established in front of Tiananmen Square, and it is axis of Beijing. You can see beautiful floats, various units, orderly phalanx army, the latest militarized weapons in the parade, etc. But just minorities people can go there see this magnificent scene on that day. Most of people will see this celebration at home through TV live. Our today’s leader will stand on the Tiananmen Gate to review troops.
In addition to, there are some other kind’s activities. Especially, our government usually arranges four flower terraces in each corner of Tiananmen Square according to different meaning of each year. Like in 2008, our topic is Olympics. Our new constructs will added in those flower terraces through epitome such as The Nest’s Bird which is National Indoor Stadium, The Water Cube which is National Swimming Center. Almost every year my parents and I will go there see that and take some pictures for memory. After that, you can choose to go some parks and join specific activities on this good season which is good for going on spring outing. For example, Zhong Shan Park which is located behind of Tiananmen Gate will hold flowers exhibition such as China rose and tulip, potted landscape shows, etc. In ancient times, Zhong Shan Park is the royal garden. In my opinion, it is one reason why there are many various plants grow there. Also you can enjoy friendship associations, amateur performer gathering of Peking Opera in other parks, like Bei Hai Park, Jing Shan Park, and so on. If you hobby shopping, this day which has a big sale is you best choose to shopping and I highly recommend New World, Big Joy City and The East New Field.
Besides above two aspects, the last favorite one which is the best item I like. All of Republic of China populations have a seven day’s holiday. Every family members gather together have rich dinner. We will cook various Chinese dishes on the table around fifteen dishes include meat, vegetable and soup, etc. After dinner, we will seat in front of TV and watch live article evening entertainment which usually goes at Great Hall of the People. Many celebrities will participate in the performance which will keep three hours. In October 1st, 2009, this year is our founding 50th anniversary. Although I didn’t catch it last year because I had came to America already, I can feel that spectacular scenes of shock through TV live. Especially, I have strong feeling; I love our hometown, China. I didn’t have same feeling before I came to here. I am proud of my country.
Anyway, The National Day is our most popular celebration because it is a symbol of our mighty country. I enjoy it very much. If you experience, I believe you will like it.

Compare Single Life and Married Life

Recently, there is an interesting thing happening in my family with two of my cousins. One of my cousins was married two years ago and he had a baby last year, and the younger one did not marry yet. One day, they drank with their friends outside. And they made a deal: my older cousin told his wife that he will drink with my younger cousin and then he can back home later. If his wife asked my younger cousin is her husband drinking with him, then he would say “yes.” After 10 o’clock, the older one’s wife called my younger cousin, “Is my husband drink with you?” And he said, “Yes, he is drinking with me.” But the funny thing is my older cousin drinks a lot and he forgot the deal. Then, he told his wife he was drinking with his friends. Finally his wife saw through the deceit. It’s kind of funny and it also showed us that single life and married life are very different. Single life and married life differ in terms of mentality, activities in free time, and financial.
Firstly, single and married person’s spirits differ in that single person do not have much pressure from family and social, while married person have more pressure from family and social. Single person can do whatever they want and needn’t think about families too much. But married person are different, they need to think about their families more, they need to care for the family members all the time. For example, my older cousin just had a baby, and he needs to take care of his daughter special in the evening. It’s very hard and hardship. So married person have more pressure on family. On the other hand, my younger cousin just needs to care for himself and needn’t work that hard to support house and car, etc.
Secondly, single person and married person have different in terms of what they do in free time and where they go on weekend. Single person usually do something they want, exciting, and special. For example, my younger cousin usually goes to club with his friends and drinks a lot. And on weekend, he goes hiking and snowboarding and has a little travel by himself. But the married person may have narrower space than single person. They do chores, housework, and don’t always go outside on weekends. For example, some married man want to exercise with their friends, but their wives disagree, women think husbands should stay with their wife and children. On the other side, my younger cousin can do anything he wants. One day, he went skiing with his friends, after skiing they played roller coaster and then they went a friend’s home and played poker the whole night. He can do every crazy thing, he wants and has no wife to tell him “No”!
Finally, single and married life’s differ not only in spirit and free time, but also in financial. Single person have less pressure from family, so they can buy something they like, and also can save a lot of money. But married persons have more pressure from family, they need pay for food, clothes, and all kinds of living expenses including children’s tuition, etc. One married person has two children. One day, he went shopping with his wife and children. His wife wanted to buy a suit of cosmetic, so he bought it for her. Later, he bought a new MP3 and a new phone for his children. The reason is the girl said her MP3 was broken and her brother thought it was not fair, so he bought one for both of them. These things often happened but he didn’t buy anything for himself. On the other side, a young single man went shopping and just bought a pair of useful shoes. He saved a lot of money and got what he wanted.
In short, the differences between single life and married life have three aspects, mentality which shows different public has different pressure. Private space, which let us know, married and single people have different life. Financial tell us that two kinds of populations have difference money issues. People should get married when they are mature enough and have more social experience. In my opinion, people should get married when they have steady income and social status. These will safeguard happiness.

Spring Festival

On Spring Festival, we have special celebration: wonderful time with family in home and happy time with relatives. Rery give us wellbeing and sweet memory, all the families get together, no worry no grief.
Rery is on lunar calendar January 1th, which is the most important night during Spring Festival. Three central aspects are wrap dumplings, set off firecrackers, and eat dumplings together. Before 12 o’clock, my mother and grandmother wrap dumplings, there is something special in dumplings: coins and red dates. My grandmother will put them into dumplings. If someone eats a dumpling which has a coin, it means the guy will earn much money in the New Year, and the red date means good luck. When I was young, in order to got a coin, I ate as much dumplings as I could. The Spring Festival Gala is the most important gala in the whole year; I watch it with my family every year, and most Chinese are same with us, it has gradually become a tradition. On 12 o’clock, my grandmother cook dumplings when my father sets off firecrackers outside, it’s so jollification. After that, we eat dumplings together and say some lucky words to families, then parents and grandparents will give children red envelope, which is the happiest moment for children.
Another aspect during the Spring Festival is when we spend happy time with relatives. The first two days is a busyness stage: visit elderships and aunt. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, my parents will bring me to my elderships’ home to pay New Year call to them, and chat about some family things with them. And also, elderships will give children red envelope. Some of the relatives may have not seen each other for a long time; it’s a sweet moment to visit them. Second day is a happy day for me that I can play with my cousins. My parents will take me to my grandma’s home, and pay New Year call to grandma, aunts, and uncles. My aunts and my mom will cook many dishes, and we eat together. Adults also drink some wine and children set off firecrackers after lunch.
Spring Festival is the most important festival in China because we have wonderful time with family in home and happy time with relatives, every day was full of joy.
