My Quartz Watch

There are many precious item in the world which are valuable; however, my priceless quartz watch is still one of my most cherished possessions. It's made of eight thick ovals which are hollow but not closely connected. The bigger one in the middle of the eight ovals can show the time exactly. When my father sent it to me, it lay like a noble princess quietly in a black sponge inside a sturdy metal box. What surprised me most is there are five distinctive silk ribbons which are all fifty centimeters in length and five centimeters in width.


So it is not only functional but also fashionable. The five distinctive silk ribbons can through the hollow oval. Then I can choose the suitable one for different clothes. I want to engrave my name on it, so it will be more unique. Even without my name, I am still proud of its special features. I value it also because I think of my best friend whose name is Zizi Yang when I see the watch. The occasion I will not forget when we found that we had the same kind watch. After it, we felt like comrades. Why do I say that? The reason is that there are many regulations in my high school. Most of them sound incredible like no long hair for all students. In my strict headmaster's opinion, nothing should engage our concentrations except textbooks. Therefore, it's a fate to have a friend who can share bad emotion or secret ideas. Since I came to America, every time I see the watch, I think of my high school life, and then have courage to overcome difficulties. I cherished it as a valuable souvenir of my youth. I put it in my drawer no matter where I stay. I believe it will bring me luck. I am looking forward to meeting my friend with the same watch, wearing it and laughing loudly about our secret.

My Bicycle

When I was in junior high school, I got my most meaningful possession which gave me an incredible new freedom. At that time, I started to go out without my parents, but sometimes it took me a long time to walk. After my parents realized that I wasn’t the little girl who was always by their side, I received a brand new mountain bike as my birthday present. It was a fancy bike to teenagers at the time. The basic color of the bike was dark gray, and it was decorated with light gray and bright white; it looked awesome. All metal on the bike were painted black but not the gears which were made with bright silver metal. The bike body was made with thick carbon fiber tubes that decrease the weight of the bike. Therefore, I, a fourteen-year-old girl could take my bike up onto the sidewalk easily by myself. There was another feature that I was proud of: it had the newest silver gear-change. I could change gears simply by using thumb and forefinger. It sounded like someone clicking on a stapler, and it made the bike ride smoothly. I could adjust the pedaling difficulty for several degrees of steepness. The tires were for mountain climbing, so they were made wider than usual bikes’. That’s why every time I rode it, the sound was like a swarm of bees were flying. The size of a bicycle is very important to the rider; especially for short kids like me. To fit me perfectly, my parents found a special size which was a 14-inch-tall bike. To show my parents how useful it was and how much I appreciated it, I rode it every single day. In fact, it became my main transportation to school, markets, or meeting friends. Until now, it has been with me for almost ten years. Because I treasure and use it carefully, it is still in good condition. That makes me feel glad and realize the importance of cherishing my possessions.

My Piano

I cherish my piano because it is like my friend. I started to play piano when I was nine years old. Although I was young, I studied hard. At that time, I didn’t have my own piano, so I practiced in my teacher’s home. One year later, my parents thought I would really like to play piano, so they sent me a piano as a present. I still remember that day, came home from school. I was so surprised that there was a huge brown paper box standing in my room. Then I opened it, and a shiny black four-leg piano appeared front of me. It is a Yamaha piano made in Japan and it’s taller than me when I was ten years old. When you lightly slide your hand across its surface, you can feel how smooth it is. When I open the lid, it smells of wood. There are 88 claviers, and each clavier means a spirit: happy, exciting, upset, etc. My piano not only spends happy time with me, but also stays with me when I feel sad. The piano is in my room. After I go to bed, I turn off my light and the piano is shiny under the moon. When I have insomnia, I looked at it all the time. It seems that it can understand what I’m thinking. Moreover, when I stay at home alone, I can watch TV like other children, but I always can play piano. It’s like a friend who is always with me.

My Totally Valuable Mac Book

Mac Book, which is made by Apple , is a very important possession treasured by me. In fact I cannot live without my special computer. First of all, for 23 years, I didn't have any of my own electronic products. My older brother had almost everything, so I was so jealous of him. When I finished my military service in 2008, my brother,who studied computer graphic design, gave me a silver colored gift. I was so excited and very happy, and That made me feel like I was flying in the sky. It was a fabulous Mac Book, my first electronic product. Furthermore, my lovely Mac Book makes me feel stylish and fashionable. it is entirely polished electronic product which is rectangle, thin, and a little bit heavy. The laptop is completely silver except the apple symbol which is white and looks like someone has taken a bit out of it. The white apple is changed to light white while the laptop was turned it on. There is an interior webcam in the MacBook. It is very helpful for me to talk to my family. The keyboard and trackpad are also silver, soft, and smooth. Although the keyboard is a compound metal, pushing the keys is like playing the piano. Moreover, the keyboard has illumination in the each of keys, so it can use in the darkest place. The trackpad has special function. Two-finger scrolling lets me drag two fingers to scroll quickly up, down, or sideways in the active window. Those things are not only in Mac Book, but also Mac Book is even faster than others. The one of the significant things that infected few virus as well. My cherished Mac Book is useful and practical every time, everywhere. When I got the MacBook, I always brought it everywhere such as school, my friend's house, or the library. I could watch action, comic, and adventure movies, listen to Rap, R&B, and K-pop music using Apple Remote, which looks like iPOD and very convenient. In addition, it helped me make a speech like making a Power Point. I know that someday my MacBook will be the old model, and then I will purchase a new model. But I cannot forget my first laptop.

My Wonderful Dance Studio - by Peggy Wang

It was on my 28th Birthday. My job was a jazz dance teacher; I used to teach class in different dance studios in Taiwan. Sometimes I had 4 or 5 classes a day, so my daily life was running around from one studio to another. By the end of the day, I always felt so exhausted. One morning, I was taking a shower and thought about my daily routine. I started to think “will it be like this for the rest of my life?” Suddenly, a voice came out from my head. It said “I don’t want to run around anymore”. Therefore, I decided to open my own dance studio. That was on my 28th birthday. Now, my studio has become one of my very important possessions. It is a small place located on the east side of Taipei and the dancing area is a rectangular empty space. It has a wooden floor and a big clear mirror on the front and back side of the wall. Also, there is an old brown classical piano in the left corner of the room which my father bought for me when I was 6 years old. We usually use that for tap dance class. When you walk into the room, there is a small square window with a yellow plastic frame which is for the parents to watch their children while they are taking the dance class. Opposite this window, there are three more big aluminum windows that you can see the street view from there. Normally, we just leave the windows open, so in the summer, it won’t feel too stuffy. This is my favorite part. Every afternoon, when the weather is warm and cloudless, and the sunlight comes straight through the windows. Then, you can see the shadow on the floor, and when everyone is dancing in the classroom, it seems like a hundred people are doing the same steps together, just like having a great party in this room. I have really enjoyed the time while I am teaching there. I’ve had so much fun in this small warm space – my wonderful dance studio.

My First Ring-Bella Du

I treasure the ring my boyfriend gave me on my 18th birthday. It's a small and exquisite platinum ring with two delicate hearts side by side, and one of them is upside down. They signify our sincere lover for each. The silvery ring looks perfect and makes me feel more elegant. Even though it doesn't glitter like a diamond ring, it's still very cute. And also this is my first valuable ring. Another reason I treasure it is its special meaning. It was a surprise present for my birthday. I had imagined many possibilities about the present, like a little doll, a leather purse, or a pair of sneakers. But I had never thought that he would give me a ring because he couldn't afford a $150 ring. Although it's not expensive for some, it was too expensive for a student like him. I was really moved that he had saved money for several months to pay for my ring. Whenever I see this ring, I will remember his warm smile face and soft gentle touch. I will value my first ring forever.

My Mechanical Pencil - Bobby, Son

My mechanical pencil has been one of my most valuable possessions ever since I bought it. When I finished my military service three years ago, I bought my mechanical pencil that was just twenty dollars but it became my valued possession. Of course some people think that the most expensive thing is best treasure, but I don’t think so. There are two reasons why I choose my mechanical pencil as my favorite possession. The first reason is that the pencil is always there whenever I study something such as English, Math or Mechanics in my major and achieve successful results using my mechanical pencil. I got a high score on the TOEIC test and took full marks on all of my major subjects. Actually nobody may believe that my mechanical pencil made all of my achievements, but I think that my mechanical pencil helps me able to get successful results. Second, it is so comfortable for me to use my mechanical pencil. I had been tired and didn’t study long time when I used another mechanical pencil. Although the color of my pencil is just black and has a little white on top of it so, doesn’t look good. However it is very convenient to grab so, I am not tired and can concentrate on my study in a lot of time. Sometimes my friends say to me that my pen is so old and should get a new one. I know that my pen has been used for long time and has many scratches but I also don’t think appearance is important. My mechanical pencil is better for me than any other new pens. For this reason I never change to a new one, despite what my friends said. In conclusion, I have obtained so many unbelievable nice results since I have used the propelling pen for 3 years. Moreover I always feel comfortable when I use my pen. Therefore I am totally able to tell anyone my propelling pencil is my most cherished possession.
