The Most Important Decision

The most important decision that I have ever made was to be a middle school teacher. Originally, when I was in my first semester of Mokwon University in Korea, I studied film. I wanted to make movie to show some audiences, so I decided to spend my 20’s in being a movie director. But after I finished my military service, my purpose had changed. During my military duty, because of my bad eyesight, I was assigned to a particular place instead of the army in order to work at the elementary school for preparing teachers’ stuff. I had a chance to see teachers’ life such as teaching action, hanging out with students, free activity for teachers’ afternoon, and good relationship with co-worker. And, someday, a teacher in that school said, “Considering your future and age, you’d better change your major. You can try it. You are not too late.” At that time, I also was worried that I would fail to be a movie director. Because I was still so young, I did not want to spend my life on an unstable job. Moreover, these days, it is too difficult to get a stable job in Korea. In other words, working as a teacher in Korea is the most stable job possible. These things made me decide to change my new major which was related to education; therefore, I had to study as much as possible to finish my plan. Preparing for my test, I had been suffering from a lot of stress. Finally, last year, I succeeded in shifting to my new major in Education. I got highly blessed to hear that I passed the test for changing my new major. But after starting the semester with my new major, I was so nervous and confused since I was far from being smart about English. In conclusion, to prevent the regret about my decision, as a transfer student I shall not give up hope in the effort and will keep learning to study as long as I am able to.
